New Delhi: Indian cricket team's chief selector Chetan Sharma on Friday (February 17) resigned from the post after a TV news channel sting operation came to the fore. In this, he breached the contract by sharing inside information regarding the team and selection process. After this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asked Chetan Sharma to resign.
Currently, Chetan Sharma, who is currently in Kolkata for the Ranji Trophy final between Bengal and Saurashtra, has reportedly sent his resignation to BCCI secretary Jai Shah, who has accepted it. Let us tell you that on February 14, Zee News released video footage, in which Chetan Sharma was heard saying that Indian players take injections to stay fit. Chetan Sharma also said that former India captain Virat Kohli tried to defame the then BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly, as he felt that Sourav Ganguly was responsible for snatching the ODI captaincy from him.
After this Chetan Sharma lost the trust of the team management and BCCI. There was concern about how the players would open up to Chetan Sharma after he made someone's conversation public. According to media reports, even some people in the team management felt that Chetan Sharma had crossed the line. After this, his position was under threat, especially for saying that players take injections to stay fit. A source aware of the matter has told that 'It is just a matter of time. Once the players lost faith, it became difficult for Sharma to continue in office.'
