Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has come down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee government over the ongoing row in West Bengal over the alleged insult to Prophet Mohammed. The court said that if the state police is unable to control the situation, then call the central security forces. A bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj of the High Court asked it to collect CCTV footage of the violence-hit areas so that the rioters involved in the violence can be identified and strict action can be taken against them.

The bench also said that the advocate general of the state should also clarify the stand of the state government on the issue of giving compensation to those whose properties have been damaged during the violence. The High Court has directed the West Bengal government to file a report by June 15. The bench said the state authorities should take all necessary steps to ensure that no untoward incident takes place and peace and order is maintained. At the same time, the court said, "If the police of the state fail to control the situation at any place, the authorities should immediately take action and call the central forces." '

Let us know that the High Court was hearing different petitions filed by different persons. A man named Niladri Saha has said in his petition that the police stood as a mute spectator when the BJP office was being burnt down. The petition had sought deployment of military or central paramilitary forces. At the same time, another petition has sought to identify the miscreants who blocked the national highway and damaged public properties in Howrah Ankurhati area on June 9, 2022, and lodged an FIR against them and impose a hefty fine on them.

In the name of insulting Prophet Mohammed, rioters created a lot of disturbance by rioters in many districts of Bengal like Howrah, Murshidabad, 24 Parganas. During this time, the rioters not only pelted stones at the police, but also set fire to the houses of many Hindu families. At the same time, a mob of 1000 Muslims targeted the Indian Railways and ransacked the train at Bethuadhari in Nadia district. Many passengers also suffered injuries during this period. A Muslim mob had pelted stones at the railway station and the train. Even after all this, Mamata has been lax in taking action against the rioters by the government, in such a situation, the petitioners have moved the court.
