Every year Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June. It is said that yoga in India is recognized as a mental, physical and spiritual practice of healthy living nearly 5000 years old and is part of the life of the people of our country. Very few people know why Yoga Day is celebrated only on June 21.

The main reason June 21 is selected as World Yoga Day is that this day is the longest day in the northern hemisphere, also known as the Summer Solstice. It is said that from the perspective of Indian culture, after the summer solstice the sun becomes south and the time of the southofion of the sun is very beneficial in attaining spiritual perfections. Tell all of you that the first International Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21, 2015. More than 35 thousand people and representatives from 84 countries, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held 21 yoga postures at Rajpath in Delhi and the celebrations set two guinest records. The largest yoga class was recorded with 35,985 people and people from 84 countries participating together in the event.

The second Yoga Day was celebrated in Chandigarh on June 21, 2016, where hundreds of people performed yoga postures under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the occasion of the 3rd International Day of Yoga in 2017, a major event was organised in Lucknow under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 51 thousand people participated in the event. There are reports that this time the main yoga programme will be held in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, and on this longest day of the year people are determined to keep their lives as long and healthy as ever. The science of yoga originated thousands of years ago, much before the birth of religions or faiths, which continues to this day.
