According to Dr. Gupta, drinking copper water increases haemoglobin levels, controls blood pressure, prevents infections, eases joint pain, fortifies bones, and keeps the heart healthy. But consuming excessive amounts of copper-infused water can be detrimental.
The following are some negative effects of drinking water from copper containers.
1. Copper toxicity
Our bodies require copper as a vital mineral, but too much copper in the water can lead to copper poisoning. The expert warns that you could experience nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and in severe cases, liver damage.
2. Digestive problems
Copper ions may contaminate water if it is kept in copper bottles or containers for an extended period of time. If you don't like it, this could give you digestive problems like gas, diarrhoea, or stomach cramps.
3. Reactions of metal
There is a chance that copper will react with other metals or water minerals. It results in the creation of potentially dangerous compounds. For instance, free radicals can be created when copper and iron combine. Cells may be harmed by this, which also increases oxidative stress.
4. Allergic reactions
Some people may develop allergies to copper. In these situations, drinking copper water may cause skin rashes or irritation using a copper bottle for water consumption
When using copper water bottles, there are a few things to keep in mind. Here are a few examples:
• Opt for a bottle made of 100 percent pure copper. After that, add water, and keep it somewhere dry for the night.
• Avoid cooling the copper bottle.
• Early in the morning on an empty stomach is the ideal time to consume water from a copper bottle.
• Don't go overboard. The right amount of copper can be given to your body by drinking water from a copper bottle twice daily—in the morning and at night.
• Drinking water from a copper bottle in between breaks. After drinking copper water regularly for two months, you can take a month off. Your body will be able to eliminate the extra copper thanks to this.
Who should stay away from copper water?
Sadly, not everyone has access to copper water. Copper toxicity can result if your liver is less able to eliminate extra copper from your body. The expert advises against drinking copper water if you have kidney or liver disease.
