New Delhi: Former Union minister Jitin Prasada may join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), multiple reports and sources have claimed.  However, reacting to a question on the speculation, Prasada said there should be some basis for the same.

 Talking about the same Prasada told reporters, “There should be some basis for such a question. Why should I answer a hypothetical question?”

The Congress also denied that any such thing was going to happen. Randeep Surjewala, Congress spokesperson, said there was no basis to the media reports.

It was also reported that some senior Congress leaders were at Jitin Prasada’s house.

Prasada, a two-time Congress MP from Dhaurahra, was very close to Rahul Gandhi. According to the sources, Prasada was unhappy with the distribution of tickets in Sitapur and Lakhimpur-Kheri districts in Uttar Pradesh. There are reports of back-channel talks being held between Prasada and the BJP leadership over the last few days.
