A woman was trampled to death by an elephant at Borlengri under Khatkhati Police Station in Karbi Anglong district.  The incident took place when the deceased was escorting some guests from her home in the morning.

According to the report, the victim has been identified as 45-year-old Meena Munda.  She could not see the wild elephant on the road due to fog. The elephant all of a sudden attacked her and trampled her to death on the spot. The forest department officials and police reached the spot. The body of the deceased was taken for conducting post-mortem to Diphu Medical College Hospital. The victim is survived by her husband and five children.

Incidents of wild elephants attacking homes and particularly parget paddy fields in Kheroni area in West Karbi Anglong and Bokajan sub-division of Karbi Anglong have been increased. The reason has been identified as deforestation and destruction of the habitat of the wild elephants. The wild elephants come out in search of food and many a time come in contact with humans and sometime attacks them.
