Srinagar: Eight party leaders in Jammu and Kashmir also resigned on Friday after former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from the Congress. However, some senior Congress leaders are not happy with Azad's resignation. Azad resigned ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in several states and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, for which he is now facing criticism from many leaders. However, many leaders have also supported Azad. Among them are the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir.
Former Vice President of Congress's Jammu and Kashmir unit GM Saroori said on Sunday that many senior leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, former MLAs and people from other parties are also present in Ghulam Nabi Azad's office in Delhi. According to media reports, Saroori told that discussions are going on. Many leaders have submitted their resignations. While many more will submit resignations now. According to reports, former MLA RS Chib, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Chowdhary Mohd Akram, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Haji Abdul Rashid, G. M. Saroori and Naresh Gupta were present.
These leaders said in a letter, 'We former ministers and MLAs of the dissolved assembly of Jammu and Kashmir have resigned from all their posts in the Congress. We have also submitted our resignation from the original membership of the party to the party leadership in support of Ghulam Nabi. Ghulam Nabi ended his decades-long relationship with Congress in a jiffy. During his stay in Congress, he served as the CM and Union Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.' However, there is talk now that Azad will form a separate party of his own.
