The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of 96 percent rain in the northern and central parts of the country. However, a day before the weather forecaster, Skymet had said that there could be below-average rainfall between the months of June and September. The Meteorological Department said on Tuesday (April 11) that this year the monsoon will be normal. According to the department, there could be 96 percent of the long-period average (LPA) of rainfall between June and September. The IMD has also said that there is a 35 percent chance of a normal monsoon, while the chance of a below-normal monsoon is 29 percent. Earlier, Skymet had said in its forecast that there is a 40 percent chance that there will be less rainfall than normal.
According to IMD, if the rainfall is between 90 and 95 percent of the LPA, it is said to be below normal. Explain that: if the LPA is 96%–104%, then it is called normal rainfall. If the LPA is between 104% and 110%, it is said to be above normal rainfall. More than 110 percent is considered excessive rainfall, and less than 90 percent is considered drought.
