India was re-elected to the United Nations' cultural and educational organization's executive board for the 2021-25 term on Wednesday. India received 164 votes in the re-election. India was elected to Group IV of Asian and Pacific States, which also includes Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, the Cook Islands, and China.

The Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO in Paris tweeted, "India gets reelected to the Executive Board of UNESCO with 164 votes for the term 2021-25." The UNESCO Executive Board is one of the UN agency's three constitutional components, along with the General Conference and the Secretariat. The General Conference elects the members of the executive board.

The General Conference, which meets every two years, is made up of representatives from the organization's member states. According to UNESCO, the meeting is attended by Member States and Associate Members, as well as observers from non-Member States, intergovernmental organisations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The executive board is made up of 58 member-states, each of whom has a four-year tenure. India is a frequent visitor to the board.
