Paris: At CES 2023, French consumer electronics company Withings unveiled its U-Scan urine analyser. The hands-free "Urine Lab" needs to be installed in the toilet and is intended for use at home only.

To use it, people must urinate directly on it. Replaceable cartridges and a reader make up the two components of the device. It currently monitors the reproductive and metabolic health of the user.

Because a doctor must interpret the results for you, urine tests are messy, and results are often delayed. This hurdle is to be overcome by facilitating the process with U-Scan.

Unlike blood tests, urine analysis is non-invasive and provides comprehensive information about the body. However, Withings' latest device is still awaiting medical approval, and data security issues also exist.

While a cartridge is inside, users must urinate on the U-Reader. of scan
The gadget has a thermal sensor that can differentiate between uric acid and toilet water. Low-energy radar can locate the ureter by determining the direction and speed of urine flow.

When urine is detected, the reader uses the microfluidic circuit to collect a small sample. When flushed, the device is "cleaned". U-scan starts automatically; There is no need to activate it.

The reader's Type-C port can be used to charge it and the cartridge can be changed. The device also includes a cleaning solution and a pair of gloves.

Cycle Sync and Nutri Balance cartridges are two types that are offered.

The former focuses on reproductive health and uses urine concentration to measure hydration, luteinizing hormone (LH), and pH levels.

Estimating the ovulation window is made easy by LH tracking. In addition to pH and hydration levels, Nutri Balance measures vitamin C and ketones. Ketones serve as a metabolic health indicator, and monitoring vitamin C can help users better absorb iron.

When you've finished urinating on the U-Scan and the tests are over, the device transmits test results via Wi-Fi to the Withings app on the user's smartphone.

Users of the app receive recommendations for improving their health based on the results. Cartridges also rotate in the lower test pod. Each of them lasts about three months and consists of about 100 tests.

U-Scan Urine Analyzer costs €499.95 in Europe. (Rs 43,800 approx). The device will be sold there in the second quarter of 2023. Old Continent's regulatory approval for medical applications is still pending.
