LUCKNOW: A woman of 26-year old, was seen dead under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom of a hotel room in the Kaiserbagh area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Police said.
Shivasimpi Channappa, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Lucknow, stated that the hotel staff had notified the police that one of their guests had been discovered deceased. In the bathroom, the body was seen by the police hanging from a towel noose that was fastened to a hanger rod.
According to reports, the woman and a male checked into the hotel on Sunday night after she reserved a room for the two by presenting a photo ID card.  She introduced the man as her friend, who recognised himself in the hotel register as 28-year-old Nitin Dwivedi. On her identification, the woman made a second reservation the following day for her relative Sushil Kumar. She spent the night with Kumar and had dinner with him in his room. Kumar is currently listed as missing.
Dwivedi on being questioned by the police said that he works in a tile factory and lives near Sushant Golf City. He said that he was in a relationship with the woman for the past 18 months and they had come to the hotel to spend time together.
The woman had identified Kumar as her cousin, he said. Dwivedi said to the police that he made repeated calls to the woman's phone on Tuesday but received no answer. Then he went to check Kumar's room, where he discovered that it was unlocked and that Kumar was supposedly not there.Â
The bathroom was similarly locked from the inside, he found. He called the hotel employees and, with their assistance, broke into the room where the woman was supposedly hanging after repeated knocks on the bathroom door remained unanswered.
After that, the hotel employees notified the Police.
When the friend was questioned by the police, she shockingly admitted that Kumar was the woman's ex-boyfriend, a fact Dwivedi was unaware of.Â
Before the body was found, Kumar was seen by a waiter leaving the hotel, said hotel manager Balram Verma's statement to the police. He informed the waiter that he would soon return after going out for tea, but he never did.
When the Police went to the Rajendra Nagar residential location shown on the ID the woman had presented at the hostel, the case became even more difficult for them to solve. None of the names listed on the ID lived at that home, according to residents who spoke with the police.
The Aadhaar card that was found in the woman's handbag when it was discovered in the room helped to positively identify her as Chandra Tripathi, but another perplexing factor was that the deceased had told both the deceased's female friend and current lover about the same residence that is listed on the ID. She also claimed to work for a cosmetics company, but police were unable to confirm that either.
The DCP said that since Police have not been able to confirm the residential address of the deceased, the identity of the woman currently seems doubtful. Kaiserbagh Station House Officer, Ajay Narain Singh, said that "We are verifying the information given by the female friend and Dwivedi about themselves and efforts are on to trace Kumar."
The body has been kept at the mortuary because, as per law police must wait 72 hours for the deceased person's family to contact them before conducting the post-mortem examination necessary to determine the precise cause of death. Simultaneously, we are also doing to trace the family through the documents found with her belongings," he added.
