Gwalior: A new initiative has been taken in Gwalior to make women self-reliant and create an environment of security for women. In fact, the smart city company has taken a new initiative here. Let me tell all of you that now Gwalior smart city buses will have women conductors, which will reduce cases of any untoward incident like tampering with a female ride. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the service today, Tuesday, honouring women conductors.

Let me tell you all that Gwalior Smart City Development Corporation has hired 12 women in the Sutra Service in city buses and intercity buses running inside the city. This is, however, the first time that women conductors have been deployed in city settlements. Let me tell all of you that today, on Tuesday, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia formally launched the service by honouring these women conductors at the collectorate. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia honoured women conductors and termed it as an example of women empowerment. In the meantime, he said, "From the beginning of this service, there will be a sense of security among women travelling in buses.''

On the other hand, Smart City CEO Smt Jayati Singh said, "Under the Smart City Sutra Seva Yojana, 13 city buses are running in the city while 14 intercity buses are running in other cities. At present 8 women conductors have been deployed on the city bus. The remaining 4 women have been deployed in Gwalior-Bhind, Gwalior-Guna and Gwalior-Shivpuri buses going out of the city. Soon 10 women will be given jobs as drivers (female drivers). There is talk in Kerala about this. 10 women drivers will be brought from there.''
