Head coach Yanke Shopman, who is trying to "increase" the pace of the Indian women's hockey team's game, has said that the recently played FIH Pro League matches have become very good from the perspective of preparations for the upcoming World Cup. The World Cup has been held from July 1 to 17 in Teresa, Spain and Amstelveen in the Netherlands.
After finishing at the historic fourth position at the Tokyo Olympics last year, the expectations from the Indian team are increasing even more. Shopman has spoken in the podcast series 'Hockey Te Charcha' launched by Hockey India that while playing the top teams in these home matches, we were paying more attention to ourselves. More than the outcome of the matches, I am satisfied with how the team has performed and I am confident that we have moved in the right direction.
Shopman has said- For the next 5 to 6 weeks, we are going to be in Bengaluru. Here our goal is going to be to practice keeping in mind the good performance in the Pro League and the World Cup. Our focus may be on achieving our physical strength. We're going to work on increasing our speed in the game. We also want to limit the risk of injury because we have to play consistent matches in the Pro League and the World Cup.
