The preparations for the Tokyo Olympics of Indian archers have gained strength when World Archery, the global body of the sport, removed the suspension conditional imposed on it within a week of the election of the Archery Association of India. When lifting the ban, World Archery instructed the Indian Union to change its constitution regarding the membership of sportspersons, resolve operational issues and prepare a strategic plan.

Along with that, AAI was also asked to submit quarterly reports on these issues. World Archery said in a statement, 'The organization has removed the suspension conditionally imposed on the Archery Association of India after the elections held in New Delhi on 18 January. The Executive Board took this decision. According to the statement, 'Indian archers will be allowed to take part in World Archery competitions from 23 January 2020. The federation is instructed to change its constitution, clarify the position on the membership of the player, make strategic plans and resolve other operational issues. AAI was suspended on August 5. The Indian archers had to play as neutral players due to suspension, which directly affected their chances of qualifying for the Olympics. After the ban is lifted on Thursday, now the Indian archers will be free to participate in competitions under the tricolor.

India is to play the next tournament in the Indoor World Series in Las Vegas within three weeks. India has so far secured three male and one female quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. World Archery Secretary General Tom Dylan said, 'We hope this will be the beginning of a well-organized association in India. In the election held on Saturday, Union Minister Arjun Munda was elected the new president of the Archery Association of India. Munda, supported by former AAI chairman Vijay Kumar Malhotra, defeated BVP Rao 34-18. Observers were sent by World Archery and Indian Olympic Association for these elections.
