World Cancer Day 2023: February 4 marks the annual observance of World Cancer Day, an international event aimed at promoting awareness as well as treatment of the disease.

Several activities will take place globally, including the "5k Challenge" by the Union for International Cancer Control, promoting individuals from all backgrounds to participate in activities such as running, cycling, swimming, hiking or walking to symbolize closing the gap in care. Also, there will be "21-day challenges" for individuals to create new healthy habits, raise awareness about cervical cancer, and educate themselves about inequalities in accessing cancer services.

World Cancer Day aims to promote awareness on cancer as a public health issue and to strengthen actions towards improving access to quality care, screening, early detection, treatment and palliative care. This year’s theme marks the second year of the campaign “close the care gap” which is about understanding the inequities in cancer care and taking actions to make the necessary progress to address them.2023 World Cancer Day: Theme

"Close The Care Gap" will be the subject of World Cancer Day for the next three years, in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Understanding and recognising the global disparities in cancer care is the focus of this multi-year endeavour. The issue centres on recognising and addressing the global gaps in cancer care that deny individuals from particular socioeconomic groups full access to basic medical services and facilities. Cancer treatment inequity claims lives.

2023 World Cancer Day: Significance

The primary goals of the day are to increase awareness and lessen the stigma attached to the illness. Lung, breast, cervical, head & neck, and colorectal cancer are the most common cancers in Indians (CRC). On Globe Cancer Day, everyone gets together with the goal of eradicating cancer from the world. Numerous activities are scheduled for this day where it will be discussed how to inform people about cancer and its early detection, treatment, and other aspects.
