As per the information received from sources, Aamir and Asif had a five-year ban on throwing noball at the behest of former captain Salman Butt in the spot-fixing episode 2010. In the same season, in the Headingley Test, Amir had taken three wickets for 20 runs, and Australia was bowled out for 88 runs. When Amir made his first-class comeback in England in 2016, he picked up three wickets for 36 runs against Samarset. It also included the wicket of former England opener Marques Trescothick.

With this, his performance before the ODI series in England before this World Cup was not that good. He took five wickets in 14 matches. Amir did not bowl in the rain-washed match against England in the ODI series. In the remaining four games, he did not play due to having chicken pox and the host team had his name from the series 4-0. Earlier, Aamir was not in the World Cup squad but later the 27-year-old player made a place in the team.
