When your digestive system is off, your health can suffer in all sorts of ways. In addition to digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, heartburn, or gas, you may also experience food allergies, weight gain, eczema, exhaustion, asthma, and more.

Here are 5 ways in which you can definitely get a good digestive function:

Change your eating habits

The way you eat has a large impact on how your digestive system works. By changing a few of your eating habits you may be able to improve your digestion dramatically.

Get probiotics

Probiotics are the "good" bacteria that have been shown to improve gut health. They are easily available as dietary supplements. For best results, work with a qualified health practitioner.

Stay hydrated

Water is important for digestion! We need water to digest solid food and absorb nutrients properly. Without water, the entire body’s performance decreases which can lead to dehydration and decrease blood pressure which can cause constipation.

Eat smaller meals

Small but more frequent meals are the key to keeping your digestion on track and can also help prevent heartburn. If you’re prone to heartburn, avoid tight-fitting clothing and lying down after meals (wait at least three hours); and talk to your doctor about taking an antacid, which helps neutralize stomach acid.

Manage stress

Well, stress doesn't just wreak havoc on your mind; it can mess with your digestion. There are many ways to reduce stress, the first being by giving yourself permission to discover what kinds of relaxing activities work best for you. Easy and gentle activities such as meditation, pranayama, yoga, listening to soothing music, walking and naps help to reduce stress levels.
