New Delhi: Good news for India's desi vaccine maker Bharat Biotech. The Covaxin of Bharat Biotech, a company awaiting the approval of the World Health Organization (WHO), has also been considered effective by the Chief Scientist of WHO. Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist, WHO said that the data on the trial of Bharat Biotech's Vaccine Coaxin is looking good. This has further increased the chances of the vaccine getting the green signal from the WHO.

Swaminathan further said that the pre-submission meeting was held on June 23 and now the data packets of its trial are being collected. He said the overall efficacy of the vaccine is effective against many variants. Though its effectiveness against the delta variant is less than expected, it is still very good. Dr. Swaminathan further said that corona cases have been witnessed in most parts of the world except the US and there has been no decline in the number of dead.

Swaminathan has suggested primary immunization of at least 60-70 percent of the population in India. He said India can learn from countries like BRITAIN which are planning booster shots. However, WHO will not recommend booster shots in such a hurry.
