Berlin: The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that it is shutting down ongoing tests regarding whether or not the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is effective in treating hospitalized patients infected with coronavirus. The WHO said on Saturday that it had accepted the committee overseeing the trial 'recommendation' to stop the testing of lopinavir/ritonavir, a drug used to treat hydroxychloroquine and HIV / AIDS patients.
The WHO stated that the interim results showed that the use of hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir did not reduce or moderately decrease the mortality rate of people infected with coronavirus. There is no concrete evidence that drugs have been given, their mortality has increased, while in the clinical laboratory results of tests related to this, there are some safety-related indications.
The WHO has stated that this decision will not affect prospective trials on patients who are not admitted to the hospital or are taking the drug before or shortly after exposure to the coronavirus.
