NEW DELHI: On World Hearing Day, March 3, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasised the need of coordinated efforts to raise community awareness about hearing problems and disability.
"Through 'Jan Bhagidari' (people's involvement) and 'Jan Andolan' (people's movement), everyone may successfully contribute to increasing community awareness of the benefits of early detection and treatment of hearing impairments," Mandaviya added. He went on to say that if hearing problems aren't recognised and treated, they can turn into disabilities, lowering people's productivity and quality of life.
In the presence of Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health, the Union Minister spoke during the 10th anniversary of World Hearing Day celebrations at Ambedkar International Centre.
He virtually inaugurated hearing screening facilities for the hearing impaired at AIIMS and 11 outreach service centres (OSC) at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Mysuru, as well as a book of hearing and screening guidelines for children and the elderly, as well as the screening report for the previous two years on newborns, schoolchildren, and adults. Mandaviya stated during the release of the guidelines that over one lakh infants in India are diagnosed with hearing issues each year.
