Today, January 30, World Leprosy Eradication Day is being celebrated. It emphasizes the need to eradicate the disease. It also sheds light on the discrimination and stigma that people suffer in society every day. The theme of this year for World Leprosy Day is 'ending discrimination, stigma and prejudice'. Leprosy, also known as Henson's disease, is a highly contagious infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium lapré.

- It is caused by Mycobacterium leprae.
- This disease mainly affects the skin, related nerves and eyes.
- The Government of India has started the National Leprosy Prevention Program to end this disease.

Its purpose is to end leprosy and eliminate discrimination against people suffering from leprosy. People suffering from leprosy often suffer from depression due to social discrimination. For this treatment, the victim needs multi-drug therapy, under this therapy, the victim has to take medicines for 6 months to one year. To create awareness about the help of people suffering from leprosy and to train the people who take care of people suffering from this disease. On this day, people from all over the world provide support to people suffering from leprosy and also collect money to help people suffering from leprosy.
