World Malaria Day 2022: Ministry organises awareness programme across India

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of World Malaria Day, the Union Health Ministry held a series of events across the country on Monday to raise awareness about the disease. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Health, presided over a discussion titled "Harnessing Innovation to Reduce Malaria Disease Burden and Save Lives."

Mandaviya emphasised the importance of utilising new technological breakthroughs to tackle any ailments.

The event was also attended by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pawar, and World Health Organization (WHO) ambassador to India Dr Roderico Ofrin.

Meanwhile, WHO officials stated that India has devised a national malaria elimination strategy, with the disease projected to be eradicated by 2030.

"India designed a national framework for malaria eradication in line with the WHO Global Malaria Technical Strategy to target zero cases by 2027 and eliminate malaria by 2030," said Roderico H Ofrin.

The Ministry of Health used Twitter to disseminate images of awareness programmes taking place across the country. "Across the country, activities to raise awareness about malaria were held on World Malaria Day. Here in Maharashtra's Nandurbar District, a rally is held in which the community, students, and district officers all take part enthusiastically "Ministry sent out a tweet.

Every year on April 25th, the world commemorates World Malaria Day to raise awareness about the disease.
