Polio is a disease in which children are congenitally crippled or suffer from it shortly after birth. However, in order to prevent this disease, governments of foreign countries are also running awareness campaigns.

Polio is also known in the medical field as 'poliomyelitis', a disease caused by the deadly 'poliovirus' and it usually affects children under the age of 5. For this reason, it is also known as 'Infantile Paralysis'. These viruses mainly affect the nervous system, leaving a person with a weak crippled foot and unable to walk normally throughout his life.

According to the information, work has been done for polio since 1988 under the Global Eradication Program and they have employed poliovirus vaccines in many parts of the world. Vaccines have also been manufactured in the country and abroad to combat the poliovirus, which is given to children in the form of polio medicine. According to the latest figures, polio cases have decreased by 58% compared to 2006 figures whereas in 2007, there were only 613 polio cases globally. Here, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan congratulated India and said, 'I am confident that India will soon become polio-free.'
