World Science Day for Peace and Development is an international day that highlights the important role science plays in society and is celebrated on 10 November each year. It also highlights the need to involve the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. World Science Day was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2001 and was celebrated for the first time in 2002, by connecting science more closely with society, World Science Day aims to ensure that Citizens should be made aware of the development of science. It also underscores the role that scientists play in broadening our understanding of the planet we call home and making our societies more sustainable.

The objectives of World Science Day for peace and development are:

Strengthening public awareness on the role of science for peaceful and sustainable societies.

To promote national and international solidarity for shared science between countries.

Renewal of national and international commitment to the use of science for the benefit of societies.

Draw attention to the challenges facing science and mobilize support for scientific efforts.

Individuals and institutions around the world are encouraged to organize an event or activity on World Science Day, which includes government officials, students, media and school students. Peace and Development for World Science Day has generated many concrete projects, programs and funds for science around the world. It has helped foster cooperation among scientists living in areas affected by the conflict, an example being the UNESCO-backed creation of the Israeli-Palestinian Science Organization (IPSO).
