We are celebrating World Vegan Day today. It is celebrated every year on November 1 to encourage people to follow the vegan lifestyle and spread awareness about veganism. World Vegan Day is dedicated to the practice of abstaining from use of animal products and exploitation of animals. Let us know what is being veganism and what are the advantages and disadvantages of being vegan.

A vegan diet is a diet that involves eating only foods comprising plants. Those who follow this diet avoid all animal products, including meat, dairy, and eggs. Some people also avoid eating honey. Being vegan is a dietary choice. Vegan diets tend to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds. Eating a variety of these foods will provide a wide range of important vitamins, minerals,  fats, and proteins. People these days are going for Vegan diet because of their love for animals.

Advantages of Being Vegan

Weight Loss: One of the biggest problems of these days is weight loss. People do various things in order to lose weight loss. People on a vegan diet tend to have a lower body mass index (BMI) than those following other diets. Vegan diets were more effective for weight loss than omnivorous, semi-vegetarian, and pesco-vegetarian diets.

To fight cancer: As per various studies, eating a vegan diet may reduce a person’s risk of cancer by 15%. This health benefit may be due to the fact that plant foods are high in fiber, vitamins, and phytochemicals, biologically active compounds in plants that helps us to fight against cancer.

For Your heart health: Vegan diets is helpful to keep your heart healthy. Vegan Diet has linked a higher intake of plant-based foods and a lower intake of animal foods with a reduced risk of heart disease and death in adults. Animal products and dairy products contain high levels of cholesterol increase which increases heart-related disease.

Disadvantages of Being Vegan 

Lack of Nutrients: It is a fact that nonveg food items and Dairy products contain ample amounts of nutrients.  Having a vegan diet makes it more challenging to obtain vital nutrients that your body needs. Those nutrients are iron, calcium, and zinc but not to worry because if you are having a planned vegan meal then it manage to fulfill the amounts of nutrients required.

Mental Trauma: Having a vegan diet is not as easy as it appears as dairy products are present in almost everything and you have to keep it in mind before having them. Today’s culture looks towards health as perfection. Magazines, TV ads, and internet pop-ups market sex, and beautiful bodies also affect your willpower. Eating a vegan diet takes consistency and dedication to avoid eating animal products.

May cause gas and Bloating:  The most common food items of a vegan diet is Beans and high fiber vegetables are a staple of a vegan diet these cause gas related problems. These problems are one of the most commonly cited complaints of a vegan diet. The huge influx of high-fiber foods like beans, broccoli, and leafy greens, can cause discomfort.
