World Wetlands Day 2022: India gets 2 new Ramsar sites

On the occasion of World Wetlands Day 2022, two new Ramsar sites were revealed, and a 'National Wetland Decadal Change Atlas' was released

.With the addition of the Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat and the Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh as the latest Ramsar Sites, India now has a total of 49 Ramsar Sites.

On February 2, World Wetlands Day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the same day in 1971. This year's topic is 'Wetlands Action for People and Nature,' which emphasises the necessity of efforts to maintain wetlands protection and sustainable usage for human and planetary health.
