New Delhi: The country's wrestler Sushil Kumar did not have a good start in the World Wrestling Championship. Two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar landed in the World Wrestling Championship after eight years. He suffered a loss in the first round of the 74kg category. He first landed in the 74kg category. Sushil was competing with Khadjahimurad of Azerbaijan. Sushil took the lead at the start of the bout and was ahead 9-4 at break time. However, after this, his opponent scored fast, scoring points.
He scored six points in the last two minutes and finally scored one more, out of the mat. Sushil lost the bout 11-9. At the same time, Karan of India had to face defeat in the 70 kg category. He was defeated 0–7 by Wrestler of Uzbekistan. Earlier on Thursday, India won two more Olympic quotas.
Wrestling star Bajrang Punia reached the semi-finals of 65 kg category and Ravi Kumar in 57 kg category gave the country an Olympic quota. However both wrestlers failed to make it to the finals. Bajrang was defeated by Kazakhstan wrestler Dolat Niyazbekov, while Ravi Kumar was defeated by Jovur of Russia.
