Every year, 25th May is celebrated globally as 'World Thyroid Day', the World Thyroid Day. The main objective of celebrating World Thyroid Day is to spread awareness about thyroid and to know about prevention and treatment of thyroid diseases. The day was started in 2008 as part of a campaign led by the European Thyroid Association (ETA) and the American Thyroid Association (ATA), after which it was celebrated with the Latin American Thyroid Society (LATS) and the Asia Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA) for patients' thyroid disease and doctors and doctors treating them.
What is Thyroid?
Thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that occurs in the endocrine gland at the lower part of the neck, which produces T3 (Thyroxine) and T4 (Triiodothyronine) around the neck, and the hormone syride gland that produces a hormone called thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in the body controls the body's energy, protein production and sensitivity to other hormones.
Thyroid hormone deficiency leads to hypothyroidism (sudden weight gain) and an increase in thyroid hormones causes hyperthyroidism. Maintaining proper iodine levels in the diet and limiting the use of raw goitrogenic vegetables helps in avoiding thyroid diseases.
