Shimla: The worldwide epidemic has hit the tourism business of hill stations of Himachal Pradesh. The tourism business has suffered more than 5000 thousand crores in 3 months. More than 50 thousand people have either lost their jobs or they are on the verge of losing their jobs. More than 6000 thousand hotels, homestay units and guest houses directly connected with tourists are kept closed. Figures have been recorded due to the Corona crisis, including Kullu-Manali, Kangra, Dharamsala, McLeodganj and Chamba districts.
In Unlock-02, the Jayaram government has opened the doors of Himachal to tourists on the guideline of the centre, but the situation is not improving. Hotel businessmen and traders are not welcoming tourists in large quantities due to the risk of corona infection. Due to strict rules, tourists entering the country are being sent back. The rainy season has started. It is clear that Himachal is going to take more time to avoid this drastic situation and bring tourism business back on track.
For the first time in 30 years, the virus has given a shock of 2 thousand crores to the tourism of Kullu-Manali. About 20 lakh tourists have not been able to visit Kullu-Manali and Rohtang due to the closed tourist activities for 3 and a half months. 3000 hotels, restaurants, cottages, homestays and resthouses are locked.
There is silence on more than a dozen tourist places in Kullu district. Adventure activities are at a standstill. In the same period last year, more than 15 lakh tourists came to Kullu-Manali. The businessmen of the district are now expected to run the tourism business on Dussehra itself. In Shimla, Corona has damaged more than 1500 businessmen.
