Beijing: Locals and tourists sought shelter after a powerful earthquake rocked a remote area of northwest China on Monday morning.
No serious injuries or property damage were reported from the 7.49 a.m. earthquake that shook the Xinjiang region, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

CCTV footage from state media showed people running from the airport's departure hall as the ground shook in the background. As the sun began to rise over the area's Shahe County, ground crew could be seen inspecting the exterior of the airport.

The earthquake was reported to have a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 by the China Earthquake Networks Center and 5.7 by the US Geological Survey.
