In Bollywood, King of Romance Yash Chopra is remembered as a filmmaker who made his special identity among the audience through romantic films. He passed away 4 years (21 October 2012) saying goodbye to the world. He was away from alcohol and cigarettes but was very fond of food.

Born on 27 September 1932 in Lahore, Punjab, Yash Chopra's elder brother BR Chopra was a well-known producer-director of the film industry. In 1945, his family settled in Ludhiana, Punjab. He ever wanted to become an engineer. He was also going to London to study engineering, but something else was written in his luck which brought him to Bombay.

His wife's name is Pamela Chopra. Yash and Pamela have two sons, Aditya and Uday. Elder son Aditya is also a director. He married actress Rani Mukherjee in 2014. His younger son Uday Chopra is a Bollywood actor. Early in his career, Yash Ji worked as an assistant with IS Johar. As a director, he started his cine career in 1959 with the film 'Dhul Ka Phool', made under the banner of his brother.

In 1961, Yash Chopra once again got the opportunity to direct the film 'Dharma Putra' under his brother's banner. It was from this film that Shashi Kapoor started his cine career as an actor. The film 'Waqt' released in 1965 is considered among the best films made under the direction of Yash Chopra. After many successful films, he founded his production company Yash Raj Films in 1973. Yash Chopra, who has made great and romantic films such as 'Wala', 'Kabhi Kabhi', 'Darr', 'Chandni', 'Silsila', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Veer Zaara', has given new meaning to romance and love on screen.

His last film 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' was also a romantic film. On the occasion of his 80th birthday in 2012, he said that this is his last film and now he wants to retire and give time to the family. Yash retired but could not give time to the family. He died on October 21, 2012, due to dengue. He has been awarded the Filmfare Award 11 times in his cine career so far. In 2001, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest cinema honour, for his outstanding contribution in the field of film. In 2005, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan.
