NEW DELHI: Yasin Malik, a convicted Kashmiri rebel, was released from the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Friday after being hospitalised there for four days. He has since returned to Tihar Jail.

Malik's health began to deteriorate on July 26 following his ongoing hunger strike, and the prison officials decided to admit him to the hospital.

Malik opted to continue his hunger strike after getting back to his cell and is still not eating. The chief prison official declared, "He is still on IV fluids." The incarcerated separatist leader began his hunger strike on July 22 and is being housed in Jail No. 7 of the Tihar Jail.

The official refused to give any information when prompted about the cause of his hunger strike. Prison insiders claim that the Kashmiri separatist is opposing the organisations looking into his crimes.

After the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror attack in February 2019, Malik was detained instantly and has been held in Delhi's Tihar Jail for more than two years.

A tipping point was reached when 40 members of the CRPF were killed in a bombing on February 14, 2019, just before the Lok Sabha elections. Malik was removed from his Srinagar home in a matter of days. His JKLF was outlawed along with Jamaat-e-Islami.

The kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed on December 8, 1989, and the murder of four members of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on January 25, 1990, were both high-profile investigations that were reopened against Malik by the nation's premier investigation agencies after a lengthy 10-year hiatus.

On May 25, Malik was found guilty in a 2017 case involving the funding of terrorism and given a life sentence by a special court of the National Investigation Agency in Delhi after entering a guilty plea to all charges.
