THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Wednesday that banning organisations serve no purpose as they resurface under a different name. "Banning organizations are no solution, RSS was banned thrice, he said.

Yechuri's remark comes against the backdrop of the Centre banning the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates for five years.

The Central Government hereby declares the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates or affiliates or fronts, including Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women's Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation an unlawful organisation in accordance with the authority granted by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Yechury said that the RSS had been banned three times; has it ceased to exist? "So a ban is not the answer. Organizations that were outlawed in the past also adopted a new name. Take a look at SIMI; it was outlawed and what transpired "Yechury told the reporters in this location. "All acts of terrorism must be halted, as must bulldozer politics," he said.

Yechury responded to a query on BJP president K. Surendran's call to remove an Indian National League ally of the ruling Left because of their connections to the PFI by stating that journalists should be accurate with their facts.
"Using WhatsApp communications going forward is useless. When we were younger, one judged a journalist by the sole of his shoes. One must go outside and look for news, "The veteran leader declared, adding that he is offering unasked-for counsel.
