Bangalore: Former Karnataka CM and BJP veteran BS Yediyurappa on Friday made a big announcement. BS Yediyurappa has said that he will vacate his Shikaripura seat for the proposed assembly elections next year. He also said that his son BY Vijayendra will contest the seat vacated by him. In such a situation, his announcement is being seen as the end of his innings in electoral politics.
BJP leader Yediyurappa further said, "I am not contesting the elections, Vijayendra will contest from Shikaripura. I pray with folded hands to the people of Shikaripura to make Vijayendra victorious by more votes than me.'' On the demand of the workers to contest from the Old Mysore constituency, Yediyurappa said, "There is a lot of pressure on him to contest from there, but I am vacating the seat and will not contest the election, so Vijayendra will contest from Shikaripura." Vijayendra was appointed as the vice-president of Karnataka BJP in July 2020. Earlier, he was denied a ticket to contest from the Varuna constituency in Mysore ahead of the May 2018 Assembly elections, soon after the party made him general secretary of the BJP youth wing.
With this, In the by-elections held in 2019 and 2020, Vijayendra was in the news. He played a key role in the BJP's victory in KR Pet and Sira assembly segments during the by-elections. Now it will be interesting to see whether in the upcoming assembly, the party leadership goes ahead as said by B.S. Yediyurappa and fields his son from Shikaripura or there is some reversal.
