Karnataka: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa reached for Delhi on Friday for a two-day visit which includes a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).  Having reached there, he took part in the virtual meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with six states on the COVID-19-related situation. Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Kerala also participated in the meeting.

Yeddyurappa urged Prime Minister Modi to provide at least 1.5 crore doses of vaccine to the state every month.  He put forth the demand for vaccine during the meeting.  He explained that the covid cases in Karnataka have declined to 1,900 a day.

Stating that Karnataka has so far received 2.62 crore vaccines, the chief minister requested the Prime Minister to provide 1.5 crore doses of the vaccine with a targeted 5 lakh doses every day, the statement read  Yediyurappa also told Modi that the district authorities have been authorized to impose sanctions depending on the positivity rate of COVID-19, the number of cases and the opinion of the Technical Advisory Committee

In the meeting,  Prime Minister said that the Centre recently announced a Rs 23,000 crore emergency response package to combat coronavirus and advised these states to utilise funds from the package to strengthen health infrastructure. He also laid emphasis on the need to focus on rural areas. The Prime Minister interacted with the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Maharashtra, Kerala to discuss the COVID-19 situation.
