SANAA: A government official reported that three Yemeni troops were killed in a drone strike carried out by the Houthi group in the province of Dhalea in southern Yemen.

The official told the Xinhua late Monday that "a Houthi drone carrying explosives targeted a security site in Qatabah district in the northern sections of the government-controlled province of Dhalea."

The official verified that three security officers were killed and another two were injured due to the drone strike. When an ambulance raced to the bombing site to save the wounded soldiers, it came under fire from Houthi snipers who were posted nearby.

Large portions of northern Yemen are under the authority of the Houthis, who have not yet responded to the attack.  The warring parties in Yemen have complied with a national truce since April 2. The internationally recognised government and the Houthi organisation routinely trade charges of truce violations, despite the fact that it has generally been observed.

Since late 2014, when the Houthi militia, which is backed by Iran, took over several northern provinces and drove the internationally recognised government from the capital Sanaa, Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war. Since then, 4 million people have been displaced by the war, and it has brought the nation dangerously close to hunger.
