Mumbai: Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha on Friday said that the Vajpayee government was never questioned for changes in the citizenship law in 2003, but protests are taking place across the country today due to doubts over the intentions of the current government. Sinha rejected the argument that the change in the Citizenship Act was one of the BJP's election promises. He asked if the election manifesto "surpassed" the constitution.

Sinha said on the sidelines of a program at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is against the Constitution as it discriminates on the basis of religion. Former BJP leader Sinha said, "PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are speaking contrary to what they had said earlier." Sinha said, 'You remember there was a protest in 2003. I do not remember There was no hue and cry. We had talked about creating a national register for Indian citizens, although nothing was cleared in this regard as the rules were not framed.

Sinha, who served as a minister in the Vajpayee government, said, "Why did CAA cause so much disruption?" Because people doubt the intention of the government. In Vajpayee's time, he did not doubt the intention of the government. In the current situation, they doubt the motive behind this move. ''
