Lucknow: A proposal to rename the Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh as Chandra Nagar has been passed unanimously in the Zilla Panchayat board meeting. In the first meeting of the Zilla Panchayat Board last Saturday, block chief BJP leader Laxmi Narayan Yadav from Firozabad Sadar block requested the government to send a proposal to rename Firozabad as Chandra Nagar.

Yadav said on Monday that MP Chandrasen Jadaun also supported the demand for naming Firozabad as Chandra Nagar in the Zilla Panchayat board meeting. The resolution was then passed. It will now be sent to the government for a final decision. Yadav said Firozabad was earlier named Chandrawar and later changed to Firozabad, so it should be named Chandra Nagar.

Earlier, at the swearing-in ceremony of the Zilla Panchayat President, state cabinet minister, and district in-charge Rajendra Singh alias Moti Singh addressed the function as Chandra Nagar instead of Firozabad. Meanwhile, several other organizations have demanded that Firozabad be renamed Suhag Nagar in place of Chandra Nagar.
