Guntur: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President YS Sharmila expressed concern over the neglected state of the Gundlakamma Reservoir Project during her inspection. The irrigation project in Prakasam district, initiated by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, aimed to irrigate lakh acres and provide drinking water to 12 mandals and Ongole town. YS Sharmila criticized the reported disrepair of the project's gates, attributing it to a lack of maintenance and calling for immediate repairs. Critics accuse the YSRCP government of neglecting crucial infrastructure maintenance in favor of political celebrations.

Officials on-site have argued that the damaged gates result from errors in project management rather than intentional neglect. The neglect is seen as jeopardizing not only the Gundlakamma project but also other vital initiatives like the Veligonda project, the largest with a capacity of 40 TMC. The call for attention extends beyond Gundlakamma, highlighting the shelving of the Veligonda project designed to irrigate 4.50 lakh acres. Critics claim that neither Chandrababu nor YSR Jagan Reddy took tangible steps in the last decade to address the maintenance needs of these critical water projects. YS Sharmila urges citizens to remain vigilant, warning that without immediate intervention, the entire Gundlakamma project could be on the brink of collapse.

In addition to the infrastructure concerns, YS Sharmila Reddy alleged that some leaders of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) are adopting "dictatorial tendencies" and attempting to rewrite the Constitution. She emphasized the unfair treatment of weaker sections by regional parties with dictatorial approaches and highlighted the need for equal representation. The plea concludes with a stark reminder that neglecting the legacy projects of YSR jeopardizes the very ambitions and principles they were built upon. The criticism comes amid growing concerns over the state's approach to infrastructure management.
