Zakir Naik says, ED is wasting taxpayers' money on investigating him for money laundering

New Delhi: Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has lashed out at investigation agencies sating they are  the investigation is a "witch hunt" and sought to counter the Enforcement Directorate (ED) charge that he has accumulated wealth without any source of income. 

In his statement, The Islamic Preacher accused the ED of lying, stating that all the government agencies know that he has multiple businesses and revenue streams. Naik said that his earnings have also been reflected in his tax returns.  He has argued that he earns more than a crore in a month and sends it back to India when required.

He further said that  between 2010 and 2016, he sent around Rs 49 crore (same amount quoted by the ED) back to India however, he claims that it was all legitimate income from various businesses he owns.

In an interview to a magazine, Naik had said, "if we see the history, more than 90 per cent Muslims who faced terror charges have been let free after 10-15 years. So if I look at an average, I will be behind bars for about 10 years, and my entire mission would get disrupted. Why should I be a fool."

Zakir Naik is also being probed under the anti-terror law by the National Investigating agency for promoting hatred among communities.
