LONDON: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacehd in the United Kingdom today, may 15, and is scheduled to hold a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak later in the day.
Zelensky's visit to the United Kingdom will be the fourth stop on a European tour that included meetings in Paris, Rome and Berl, the BBC reported. The Ukrainian president said on Twitter: "Today - London. When it comes to increasing our capabilities on the ground and in the air, the UK is a pioneer. We'll keep working together today.
"I'm going to meet Rishi, my friend. We'll hold in-person, delegation-based substantive negotiations. Sunak would stress the significance of offering Ukraine a comprehensive package of support during the discussions at Chequers, the Prime Minister's official country residence, according to a statement from Downing Street.
It also said that the UK would later on Monday confirm "hundreds" of air defence missiles and drones to support Ukraine's defence. It is anticipated that the two leaders' meeting won't take longer than a few hours.
Following a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Sunday in Berlin, Ukraine was able to secure an additional 2.7 billion in defence aid.
"The largest since the beginning of the full-scale aggression" by Russia in February 2022," according to Zelensky, was the latest batch of German Leopard tanks and anti-aircraft weapons.
Following a meeting between President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart in Paris later in the day, Ukraine was promised dozens of light tanks and armoured vehicles in France.
Zelensky made his first trip to London since the conflict began in February 2022 in February of this year. While there, he spoke to Parliament and held an audience with the King.
London has been one of Ukraine’s major important allies in the war, and it has became the first country to offer longer-range missiles, permitting the Ukrainian military to strike Russian positions away from the frontlines. As part of the visit, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will announce that there is more help on the way.
