The Central Government told the Delhi High Court on Friday that clinical trials of the Zydus Cadila vaccine on children in the age group of 12-18 years have been completed and may be available soon. In an affidavit on July 15, Satyendra Singh, Under Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said, "It has been reported that Zydus Cadila, who developed the DNA vaccine, has successfully completed his clinical trial for the ages of 12-18.''

Satyendra Singh said that Ahmedabad-based Zayedus Cadila's DNA vaccine is now "nearing legal approval, it may be available to children in the age group of 12-18 years in future." Trials of the second vaccine are also nearing completion. The government said a roadmap for immunization of children will be prepared when the vaccine is allowed by experts.

In fact, a PIL has been filed in the High Court on behalf of a minor named Tia Gupta seeking directions for immediate immunization of children between the ages of 12 and 18. It has been argued that the third wave of the corona is likely to affect most children. The Centre informed the Delhi High Court while hearing the same PIL. Zydus Cadila, on the other hand, had said on July 1 that he was planning to roll out the ZyCoV-D vaccine within 45 to 60 days, which is under the permission of the Drug Controller General of India.
