Sonakshi Sinha, Bhushan Kumar were present at the song launch event of Gulabi 2.0 where Kumar talked about the biopic based on his father Gulshan Kumar.

At the song launch event, Kumar said, "It is an emotional film. I am very attached to the story. There are a lot of similarities between Akshay and my father."

Once he also said that, "Mogul is not a film for me. It’s my dream come true. My father has been my guiding force all through my life and I have always felt his presence with me in everything I do. I always knew that one day I would make Mogul and share my father's amazing story with the world. I am also extremely happy that my mother Sudesh Kumari will be producing the film. And I can think of no one better than Akshay to play him on-screen."

Choose Akshay as the lead, he said, "Akshay in the role of my father was my first choice. When I took the film to him, he not only said yes immediately, but also never discussed the remuneration. Being a part of Mogul was an emotional decision for him."
