Irom Sharmila acquits from suicide charge by Delhi Court

Delhi: Irom Sharmila,a Manipuri activist is discharged from the charge to attempt to suicide. A local Delhi court on March 30,2016 acquitted Sharmila from the case which was registered in 2006 for the 15 year long hunger strick to press for the repeal of the Armed Forces Act.

Today, The Magistrate from Delhi’s local court-Harvinder Singh discharged Sharmila from the 2006 case.

The court on March 4, 2013 framed charges against Sharmila for attempting to commit suicide in Delhi and put her on trial after she refused to plead guilty.But, she refused attempting suicide while fasting at Jantar Mantar.
