The Government of West Bengal has announced that this year, during the Moharram procession, the immersion of the statue of Durga will be stopped. In spite of all the PILs filed in the Kolkata High Court last year, this is being done this year too.

During a meeting with the Durga Puja organizers on Wednesday evening in Kolkata, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "On the day of Vijay Dashami, the statue will be immersed in the evening till 6 pm, because after that the Moharram procession will be out, if these two things will be together then the problem may arise. I want all of you in this matter. Some people would like to take advantage of this opportunity for their own benefit, Hindus and Muslims will be used as a tool."

Mamta Banerjee tweeted also, "Except for a period of 24 hours on the day of Muharram, immersion can occur on October 2, 3 and 4."

Similarly, in the same time last year, the state government had issued a ban on idol immersion.
