After a long wait of response from the Indian Prime Minister and a series of bashing from the opposition, Mr Modi finally broke his silence on the increasing violent cow-vigilantism stemming from the nationalistic routes.
The tweets come after an approximate of 28 people have been killed in cow related crimes since his party came to power. Earlier, Mr Modi while in Gujarat had highlighted how the cow vigilantes use the cloak of nationalism to propagate their dairy businesses run by confiscating the cows in the name of holy service.
Modi has condemned the violence against Muslims, who make up 14 percent of India's 1.3 billion people, and lower-caste Hindus who eat beef or work in the meat and leather industries.
"The state governments should take stern action such anti-social elements," Modi tweeted after meeting representatives of political parties ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament starting on Monday.
India's opposition parties are likely to raise the issue of repeated attacks on Muslims by so-called cow vigilantes.
