Good news for India as Sindhu advances to semifinals
The Rio Olympic Silver-medallist PV Sindhu in a match yesterday defeated Minatsu Mitani of Japan to book her place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Korea Super Series. Sindhu thrashed her by 21-19, 16-21, 21-10 in a match that lasted for more than an hour.
However, the Hyderabadi shuttler came dominated the deciding game from the very beginning and sealed the match to book her place in the last four.
In the pre-quarters match, Sindhu defeated Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol by 22-20 21-17. In the men's singles event, Sameer Verma lost in front of Son Wan by 20-22 21-10 21-13 in an hour and nine-minute match.
PV Sindhu became the first Indian to grab the silver medal at the Olympic Games last year when she lost in the final against Carolina Marin of Spain at Rio de Janeiro. The Hyderabadi shuttler won the Silver at the recently concluded World Championships in Glasgow.
