Within a day of the resignation of Venkaiah Naidu, PM Modi appointed Smriti Irani to handle to Information and Broadcasting Ministry while Narendra Singh Tomar has been allotted the housing and urban development minister.

Naidu, who filed his election papers on Tuesday, had quit the Modi cabinet hours after he was picked to take on Opposition’s Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the August 5 election. While Irani still holds the Textile ministry and Tomar-the rural development ministry, both will have an additional charge as they have been entrusted with the new duties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to make changes in his cabinet as several ministers are holding more than one portfolio. The reshuffle is expected after the monsoon session of Parliament that ends August 11.
