South Africa showed just two moments of weakness during the first One-Day International on the weekend. The first was when Dane Paterson endured a bit of a club on debut, not to mention the denigrating sight of Bangladeshi batsmen regularly giving him the charge. The second was when Faf du Plessis admitted in a post-match interview that he had felt a bit sorry for South Africa's opponents. Those moments aside, the Proteas were utterly ruthless, particularly in their run chase. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock gave the impression that they could have chased 400 without giving Bangladesh's bowlers a wicket. While the tourists showed some welcome improvement with the bat in comparison to their performance in the Test series, the bowling looked horribly toothless.

It is difficult to see how that will change for the second ODI in Paarl on Wednesday. After twisting his ankle on Saturday, Mustafizur Rahman missed the first game and has now been ruled out of the remainder of the series. The pitch in Paarl is also unlikely to offer anything extra for the bowlers, having turned into a bit of a road over the past few years. Relatively small boundaries won't help either.
