Mumbai: The death toll has reached to 32 after a five-storey building collapsed in South Mumbai's Bhindi Bazar. The relief and rescue work is still in place of the accident. There are still many people feared trapped in the debris. It is said that this building was 117 years old. The incident happened around 8:30 am yesterday morning.
So far about 40 people have been evacuated:
The Chief Fire Service officer of the city said that the maximum number of people in the dead is of men. Nearly 40 people have been evacuated from the wreckage so far. There was also a house, warehouse and a play school in this building. Officials said that many people are still feared trapped in the rubble of this building.
Nearly nine families living in the building:
During the rescue operation, five fire brigades and one NDRF jawan were also injured, they have also been taken to JJ Hospital. Two of these are reported to be critical and four others have been discharged from the hospital. The fire brigade personnel said that there were about nine families living in the hungry Husseini building.
5-5 lakh compensation to family members of deceased:
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the spot and ordered the Additional Chief Secretary of the state to conduct an inquiry into the matter. They announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to close relatives of the dead. He also said that the state government will bear the full expenditure of the treatment of the injured people.
